Generative Art with d3.js
I went to the event not only because I like the Creative Coders meetup but also because I enjoy working with d3js. I’ve used it in the past for some data visualizations but I hadn’t thought of it as a generative art tool before this workshop. The idea was very intriguing to me and I couldn’t pass up the oppoturninty to learn more about it.
Bill Automata hosted the event and he spent a couple of hours dissecting examples he made for this workshop. You can find them in this CodePen collection. Being a self-taught developer, I prefer this workshop format because I get to hear how other developers tackle programming problems and the reasons behind their decisions. This typically gets lost when reading blog posts or software documentation.
After the workshop I had a little free time to experiment with a couple of ideas using d3js. Here’re 2 quick experiments I made inspired by this event. Nothing too fancy but just a way to apply what I learned.
